The event, based at the village’s pavilion and playing field, attracted about 120 runners for the 10k and 40 in the fun run.

Parish council chairman and organiser, Val Whitbread said: “Putting on such an event for the first time was always going to be nerve racking, but we couldn’t have been happier with the outcome last Sunday.

“With around 120 taking part in the 10k, and almost 40 in the fun run (led round by George and Zippee) lots of friends and family there to join in the fun, and sunshine to boot, it was a fantastic day.

“The atmosphere was buzzing from start through to prize-giving by Leeds Carnegie’s Rich Beck.”

The 10k runners were of all ages and abilities, with the winner, Paul Millgate of Wetherby Runners AC, coming home in 35 minutes 46 seconds, and the first woman home, Charlotte Mason of City of York AC, finishing in 42 minute 45 seconds.

In the warm sunshine the course was a tough one, even for experienced runners, with a mixture of terrains, long uphill sections, and the steep Bramham Beast up Almshouse Hill towards the finish.

A final lap round the playing field at the end gave supporters the chance to cheer everyone over the finish line.

Val explained that the event was made possible by a massive team effort, with over 50 volunteers from the village’s informal running club, the pavilion committee, the Parish Council, and their friends and families.

“We were also very lucky to have sponsorship with our marshals’ bibs, medals, prizes, and drinks, from APC Clothing, Bramham Garage, The Passion Group, and Sainsbury’s at Tadcaster.

“The support of Tadcaster triathlon and running clubs, and Wetherby and Otley clubs, with the loan of lots of equipment and a fabulous finish arch, was invaluable.

“To have these well established clubs helping us with our first organised run was just brilliant.

“We are so proud to have put on such an event in our village.”

Money raised from the event will go to the upkeep of the Pavilion for the coming year, explained Val.

She added: “A big thank you to runners, sponsors, spectators, volunteers for your contribution in making this event a success.”
