Letter: Tour de Yorkshire - Only a cycle race prompts repairs

I note that last week's edition of your newspaper carried notifications from North Yorkshire County Council listing roads to be closed for maintenance '“ all of which are on the route of the Tour de Yorkshire this year.

It’s a sad state of affairs in local government when it takes a cycle race to stimulate NYCC to carry out routine road repairs.

And the ones being repaired are in some (I suspect many) cases those in least need of maintenance.

I know of some in Nidderdale that are in a far worse state than those that have had those tell-tale white lines spray painted on them recently indicating the areas to be re-surfaced.

Let’s hope that the 2017 race takes a different route through the Harrogate district so that some other lucky local residents can get their roads re-surfaced.
