New Harrogate lottery launched

The first tickets for Harrogate district's new Local Lotto with a possible jackpot of £25,000 go on sale today.

Harrogate Borough Council believes the new scheme is a great opportunity for small charities and community groups to generate extra revenue from their supporters, at no cost.

Tickets are now being sold via The Local Lotto website which is now live for players to select their six numbers.As well as a £25,000 jackpot, there will be smaller, weekly, prizes.

The lottery is a fundraising opportunity for local voluntary and community groups, which also enables players to support the organisations they care about most.Money raised through The Local Lotto will contribute towards keeping the voluntary and community sector thriving across the district.

Karen Weaver, chief executive of the Harrogate and Ripon Centres for Voluntary Services, said: “HARCVS has been delighted to support the launch of The Local Lotto.“Its link with The Local Fund builds on the excellent partnership work between the Council, ourselves and Two Ridings Community Foundation to grow local giving in our area.”

Councillor Sam Gibbs, who chairs Harrogate Borough Council’s voluntary and community sector liaison group, said: “People across the Harrogate district now have an exciting new way to support the many good causes doing great work every day.“It’s not too late for charitable organisations to register as beneficiaries and raise additional income and their profile.”

The lottery is being promoted jointly by the council and The Local Lotto for the Harrogate district and is being run independently by lottery manager Gatherwell.A total of 60p from every £1 ticket will go directly to local charities and voluntary or community groups. They will be the only organisations to benefit.

The inaugural draw will take place in September but good causes still have the opportunity to sign-up to be a beneficiary. The application process at www.thelocallotto.co.uk only takes a few minutes and can be completed via The Local Lotto website.

The Local Lotto is being run independently by experienced lottery operator Gatherwell.The company was founded in 2013 by its three directors with a mission to help good causes raise money.
