Charlie and Lola fans can meet bestselling author-illustrator and Children’s Laureate, Lauren Child at Newby Hall, near Ripon this week.

A multi-award-winning writer and artist whose books are known and loved the world over, Lauren is the creator of characters Clarice Bean, Ruby Redfort and Hubert Horatio Bartle Bobton-Trent as well as the ever-popular brother sister combo - Charlie and Lola.

And Lauren has created her own doll’s house. In a first, Lauren is loaning her doll’s house, designed and furnished in her unique style, to Newby Hall where it will be on display for visitors to enjoy until September alongside Newby’s own collection of dolls’ houses and miniatures.

Lauren will be in conversation on Friday July 6, 6.30-8.30pm in a ticket only event and will return to open the summer exhibition and garden trail and sign copies of her latest Charlie and Lola title the following day.

Tickets are £20 for adults and £12 for children. https://shop.myonlinebooking.co.uk/newbyhall/buy.aspx?tid=21

An exhibition of Lauren’s artwork will run from July 7-September 7.

A writing and illustration competition, judged by Lauren, will run alongside the exhibition.
