Flower Festival: Saint Mary’s Church, Thornton Watlass is raising funds for Help for Heroes and the church by holding a Flower Festival from Friday to Sunday, October 5-7. There is a children’s service at 2.30pm on Friday and a preview at 6pm. The Harvest and Flower Festival Service is at 7pm, followed by a festival supper (£5) at 8.30pm in the village hall. On Saturday, the church will be open from 10am-5pm with a concert put on by the Leyburn Brass Band at 7.30pm. Tickets £6 each. On Sunday, there is a Family Service at 10.30am, then the church will be open from noon until 5.30pm. The weekend comes to a close with Songs of Praise with Askrigg Ladies Choir at 6.30pm. Sing and jigs: a fresh concept for preschool children from birth to five years. Help your child to learn, sing and jig. This education programme inspires young children to develop a love of music. Harvest Thanksgiving: the Harvest Holy Communion will be held at Saint Paul’s Healey on Sunday, October 7. Saint Paul’s will be supporting Saint George’s Crypt. Masham Local History Group: David Rhodes will be speaking about William Burgess and the high Victorian churches of Newby Hall and Studley Royal on Tuesday, October 9 at 7.30pm at Masham Town Hall. David is a retired architect, town planner and conservation polemicist and makes a welcome return to Masham. Non members are welcome. £3 per meeting which includes refreshments.

Masham & District Agricultural Group: the group’s season starts on Thursday, October 11 at Masham Sports Association Pavilion at 7.45pm. The speaker at the meeting will be David Lister of J C Lister Farms Ltd and he will be talking about Our Farming Enterprises. Meetings are on the 2nd Thursday in each month. All welcome.
