Valentine’s Day might have been and gone, but a family company near Boroughbridge is hoping to create a spot of after-dinner romance with a heart-shaped cheeseboard – made from marble.

Marbletree, based in Great Ouseburn, is run by Jayne Little. She left a 20-year job at Marks & Spencer to raise her two children, before starting up her own business.

Foodie interests run in the family – she’s the sister of Lottie Shaw, the Halifax baker whose gingerbread products you might have come across in Fodder. And Jayne’s father and brother both have roles at Marbletree.

Jayne said: “The business has grown and grown beyond our expectations. It truly is a family business with my dad and brother working alongside me.”

The heart-shaped marble cheeseboard – which costs £29 – might be one of the most romantic products on offer, but it’s not the only one.

There’s also a marble wine cooler, a marble pestle and mortar, hippo and pig ornaments and a smartphone holder shaped like a high heel.

“We get loads of lovely feedback messages from our customers,” said Jayne.
