Church services: Communion by extension with Adrian Roberts begins at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. The mid week communion service will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday. The plough service will be led by the Rev Caroline Falkingham next Sunday when the Longsword Dancers will perform the Kirkby Malzeard longsword dance.
Chapel service: Sunday worship begins at 10.30am on Sunday in the Ebenezer chapel and will be led by the Rev Roy Newell. Next Sunday the chapel’s congregation is invited to join the plough service at 10.30am in St Andrew’s church.
Regular events: exercise classes will be held at the mechanics’ institute from 2-3pm and 7-8pm on Mondays and from 9.10-10.10am on Fridays. The watercolour painting class is on Thursdays from 9.30am-3.30pm, needlecraft from 1.30-3.30pm and badminton from 7pm.
Coffee morning: the mechanics’ institute coffee morning will be held from 10am-noon on Saturday, January 26. This is your opportunity to renew your membership of the mechanics’ institute.
Quiz: the annual quiz begins at 7.30pm on Saturday, January 26 in the mechanics’ institute.
Aldfield - Church service: there will be no service on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.
Dallowgill - Chapel service: the Rev Susan Richardson will lead the covenant service at 2pm on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel.
Meeting: the Discover Dallowgill History Project meeting will take place at Dallowgill Methodist chapel on Sunday. It begins after the 2pm chapel service. £2 per person will cover refreshments and chapel costs.
Galphay - Folk dance club: the Highside Folk Dance club meets in the village institute from 8-10pm on the first, third and fifth Fridays of the month. The next meeting will be held on Friday, January 18. The village hop band will play and Pauline Singleton will be the caller.
Grantley - Dancing: this will be held in the village hall from 7.30pm to 10pm tonight.
Dance: the next dance at the village hall takes place from 8pm-midnight on Saturday when Beresfords will be the band. Supper will be available and there will be a raffle.
Laverton - Carol singing: thanks to the carol singers and their supporters £71 was raised for Yorkshire cancer research.
Sawley - Church service: the family service, led by the Rev Caroline Falkingham, begins at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Sawley chapel.
Party time: Sawley children’s party will be held in the village hall at 2pm on Saturday.
Village hall events: there will be table tennis at 7.30pm on Monday, a bowls match at 7pm on Tuesday and short mat bowls at 1pm on Wednesday.
Whist and dominoes: Sawley village hall’s monthly whist and domino night begins at 7.30pm on Friday, January 18.
Winksley - Church service: the eucharist will be celebrated by the Rev Caroline Falkingham at 9am on Sunday at the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald. Next Sunday there will be the plough service. This will be led by the Rev Maurice Jennett.
