Church services: the Rev Trevor Vaughan will celebrate the Eucharist (BCP) at 9am in St Andrew’s church on Sunday. The midweek celebration of the Eucharist will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Chapel service: the Ebenezer chapel’s congregation will make their own arrangements for the service at 10.30am on Sunday.

Film night: the next film night at the mechanics’ institute takes place at 7.30pm tomorrow, Friday November 23. Look in the hall entrance for details.

Gig: LED-ZEP/DC perform a live, musical tribute to the classic rock bands Led Zeppelin and AC/DC at the mechanics’ institute in Kirkby Malzeard on Saturday, November, 24. The band delivers a faithful and passionate reproduction of the classic sounds of these rock giants. The door and bar are open at 7.30pm. Advance tickets priced at £8 are available from Kirkby Stores or by telephoning 01765 658312. Tickets are £10 on the door, subject to availability.

Meeting: members of Kirkby Malzeard, Laverton and Dallowgill parish council meet in the mechanics’ institute annex on Monday, November 26. A representative from Carter Jonas will be at the mechanics’ institute for two hours before the meeting so members of the public can call in and ask questions about their proposals for development on land between Galphay Road and St. Andrew’s. He will address the parish council for 15 minutes at 7.15pm and the normal parish council meeting will begin at 7.30pm.

Patronal fair: Saint Andrew’s patronal fair will be held at the mechanics’ institute from 11am-3pm on Saturday, December 1 with a host of stalls, tombola, raffle and refreshments. Father Christmas will be there and the children from Kirkby Malzeard school and pre-school will sing. The proceeds go to a named charity and Saint Andrew’s church.

Azerley parish council: meets at Winksley church room at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 29.

Women’s fellowship: the guest speaker when the ladies meet in the Methodist chapel schoolroom at 2.15pm on Wednesday, December 5 will be Terry Frazier whose talk will be about Colditz Castle. This will be followed by tea and biscuits.

WI meeting: Members and their friends will meet in the mechanics’ institute at 7.15pm on Wednesday, December 5 for their Christmas party.

Aldfield - Church service: the Eucharist will be celebrated by the Rev Caroline Falkingham at 9am on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church. At 6.30pm on Advent Sunday, December 1 there will be a special candlelit service.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: Sunday worship will be led by Ruth Parry at 2pm in Dallowgill Chapel.

Galphay - Fayre: Galphay village institute is holding a Christmas Fayre from 10am -3pm on Saturday. Refreshments will be available. Stalls to include plants, soaps, cakes, gifts and homeware. For more information contact Elizabeth on 07702 168300.

Folk dance club: Chas and Heather, the village hop band, will play folk dance club members meet in the village institute from 7.30-10pm on Friday, November 30. The caller will be Tony Whitehead. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children,

Grantley - Dancing: this takes place in the village hall from 7.30-10pm tonight.

Dance: the next dance at the village hall is to raise funds for Winksley and Grantley Young Farmers. It will be held from 8pm-midnight on Saturday. Alan’s band will play. There will be a raffle and light refreshments.

Domino drive: The Christmas domino drive at the village hall begins at 7.30pm on Friday, December 7. Tickets for the grand Christmas draw which will be drawn at the domino drive are available from village hall committee members. There are excellent prizes to be won.

Sawley - Church service: the service at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels is the Eucharist. The Rev Caroline Falkingham will be the celebrant.

Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Sawley chapel.

Village hall events: table tennis begins at 7.30pm on Monday, November 26 and there is a bowls match at 7pm on Tuesday, November 27.

Tea: afternoon tea will be served from 2pm on Friday, November 30 in the village hall.

North Country Theatre: call 01765 620250 for details and tickets (£8.50) for North Country Theatre’s production of The lighthouse on shivering sands, a sinister story of sea and strangulation, on Thursday, December 6 at 7.30pm.

Winksley - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
