Chapel service: the chapel’s congregation will make their own arrangements for Sunday worship which will begin at 10.30am in the Ebenezer Chapel.

Church services: there will be communion by extension (BCP) with Adrian Roberts at 9am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. The midweek communion service will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Craft afternoon: the next craft afternoon will be held in the mechanics’ institute from 2-4pm this afternoon. You can bring along any knitting, needlework, rag rugging, card making or any other craft or just come along for tea/coffee and a chat. These sessions will be held every two weeks during the winter months.

Workshop: the next Kate Crane workshop is an all day Christmas special. It will be held in the mechanics’ institute from 9.30am-3.30pm on Saturday, November 23. The cost is £25 per person.

Meeting: members of Kirkby Malzeard, Laverton and Dallowgill parish council meet at 7.15pm on Monday, November 25 in the mechanics’ institute.

Mechanics institute events: today watercolour painting will be held from 9.45am-12.15pm, needlecraft from 1.30- 3.30pm and badminton from 7.30pm. The technical knockout class is from 9.15-10.15am and yoga starts at 1.45pm tomorrow. On Tuesday the mixability exercise class is from 2-3pm and body blitz aerobics from 7-8pm.

Quiz: the mechanics’ institute quiz night is Friday, November 29. The bar will be open from 8pm and the quiz begins at 8.30pm sharp.

Dominoes: at 7.30pm on Monday, December 2 there will be an opportunity to play dominoes at the Highside playing field pavilion. The charge is £ to include tea and biscuits.

Party time: Kirkby Malzeard WI members are holding their Christmas party on Wednesday, December 4 in the mechanics’ institute. It begins at 7.15pm and friends are invited at a charge of £5. The entertainment this year will be provided by Ripon Rowel Players.

Women’s fellowship: Terry Frazier is the speaker at the next meeting of members which will be held in the chapel schoolroom at 2.15pm on Wednesday, December 4. He will talk about a day in the life of a Cistercian monk.

Christmas craft fair: the annual patronal craft fair takes place from 11am-2pm on Saturday, December 7 in the mechanics’ institute. The children from Kirkby Malzeard primary school will sing and there will be a range of stalls including gifts, jams, cakes, cards, books, plants, silk flowers, dolls’ clothing and children’s wear. There will be gifts from Father Christmas and toasted sandwiches will be on sale. The proceeds will go to St Andrew’s church and a named charity in Ghana.

St Michael’s Hospice: the Fountains support group is grateful to everyone who supported the coffee morning at Ashfield, the home of Drs Liz and Mike Harford-Cross. The cake stall, raffle and donations raised a total of £405.80 and £267.50 worth of cards and calendars were sold. The annual Light up a Life service will be held at Ripon cathedral at 3pm on Sunday, December 8. If you wish to dedicate a light on the Christmas tree to remember someone special please complete a form which is available from the Ripon Hospice shop or contact the Hospice on 01423 879687. At 7.30pm on Friday, December 20 the Highside Singers will be presenting their Christmas concert at Grantley village hall. Tickets are available from choir and hospice committee members or by phoning 01765 658838. The ticket price of £7.50 includes tea/coffee and mince pies or shortbread.

Aldfield - Church service: the Eucharist will be celebrated by the Rev Caroline Falkingham at 9am on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.

Azerley - Parish council: Azerley parish council members meet in Winksley church room at 7.30pm on Thursday, November 28.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel.

Galphay - Folk dance club: Rhubarb sandwich will play and Hilary Johnson will be the caller when members of the Highside folk dance club meet in the village institute from 8pm to 10pm on Friday, November 29. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.

Quiz night: Grantley village institute committee is organising a quiz night to be held on Saturday, November 30. It starts at 7.30pm and there will be a hot supper. Please contact Elizabeth Metcalfe on 01765 650449 to book your ticket. Admission is £6. Come along and enjoy a fun evening for everyone.

Craft fair: anyone wishing to book a stall (£10) for the craft fair to be held in the village institute from 10am on Saturday, December 7 should contact Elizabeth Metcalfe on 01765 650449 as soon as possible.

Grantley - Dancing: from 7.30-10pm tonight the mid-week dancing session will be held in the village hall.

Dance: the next dance at the village hall will be held from 8pm to midnight on Saturday. Alan’s band will play and there will be a raffle and supper. This dance is to raise funds for Winksley cum Grantley young farmers.

Young farmers: Winksley cum Grantley young farmers club members meet in the village hall on Wednesday.

Christmas fair: the Fountains Parish Christmas fair will be held at Grantley village hall on Saturday, December 7. There will be all the usual attractions and refreshments and Father Christmas may pay a visit.

Sawley - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Sawley chapel.

Church service: the Eucharist which begins at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels will be celebrated.

Village hall events: table tennis begins at 7.30pm on Monday and on Tuesday there will be a bowls match at 7.30pm.

Tea: afternoon tea will be served in the village hall from 2pm on Friday, November 29.

The road to Bethlehem: an evening of music to listen to, songs to join in, readings and mulled wine and mince pies takes place at 7pm on Friday, November 29 in the church of St Michael and All Angels.
