Chapel service: Sunday worship will be led by the Rev Ruth Parry at 10.30am in the Ebenezer Chapel.

Church services: the children’s service, with Liz Jarvis begins at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. The midweek communion service starts at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Halloween party: a family halloween party will be held at the mechanics’ institute from 7-9pm tonight. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The bar will be open, orange juice will be available, and there will be competitions for fancy dress and the best dressed pumpkin.

Mechanics institute events: There are no classes today because of half term. Classes begin again on Tuesday with mixability from 2-3pm and body blitz aerobics from 7-8pm. Watercolour painting will be held from 9.45am-12.15pm, needlecraft from 1.30-3.30pm and badminton from 7.30pm on Thursday. Yoga and technical knockout classes start again next Friday.

Dominoes: the highside playing field pavilion is the venue for the monthly domino night. It starts at 7.30pm on Monday, November 4. The £2 charge includes tea and biscuits.

Meeting: Kirkby Malzeard WI members will be taking part in a hands-on papercraft session, led by Claire Lindley, when they meet in the mechanics’ institute at 7.15pm on Wednesday, November 6.

Craft afternoon: bring along any knitting, needlework, rag rugging, card making or any other craft and join a friendly group of ladies at a craft afternoon that will be held in the mechanics’ institute from 2-4pm next Thursday, November 7. These sessions will be held every two weeks during the winter months..

Murder mystery night: the Ripon Rowel players present an evening with a difference, their latest mystery murder Murder at the Pyramids or who’s in de nile of murder? It will be held at the mechanics’ institute on next Friday, November 8. The reception is from 7-7.15pm. Come with your friends to help solve the mystery. Admission is by ticket only. Tickets, £10 each to include a two course supper, are on sale at Kirkby Malzeard Stores. The bar will be open.

Coffee morning: the annual hospice coffee morning will be held at Ashfield House, the home of Drs Elizabeth and Mike Harford-Cross, from 10am-noon on Saturday, November 9. There will be home-made biscuits and coffee, hospice cards and calendars for sale, a raffle and a cake and produce stall. The committee will be grateful for raffle prizes and contributions to the stall.

Cabaret 2013: the Christian Aid committee members are organising another evening of entertainment by local artists in the mechanics’ institute on Saturday, November 9. Like last year it’s a “bring your own supper” evening. Tables may be reserved by contacting Liz Witton, Sue Thomas or Emily Roberts.

Coffee morning: from 10am-noon on Tuesday, November 12 there will be the monthly coffee morning at the Methodist Chapel with cakes and cards for sale.

Aldfield - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: the communion service will be celebrated by the Rev Ruth Parry at 2pm on Sunday in Dallowgill Chapel.

Galphay - Folk dance club: the members of the Highside folk dance club next meet in the village institute from 8-10pm tomorrow. Chas and Heather, the village hop band, will play and Les Barclay will be the caller. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.

Craft fair: anyone wishing to book a stall (£10) for the craft fair to be held in the village institute from 10am on Saturday, December 7 should contact Elizabeth Metcalfe on 01765 650449 as soon as possible.

Grantley - Dominoes: the village hall’s domino night is tomorrow. It starts at 7.30pm.

Dance: The next dance at the village hall will be held from 8pm to midnight on Saturday when Mark Kitto will play. There will be a raffle and supper.

Dancing: the mid-week dancing session will be held in the village hall from 7.30-10pm next Thursday, November 7.

Meeting: the November meeting of Grantley and Winksley WI members will be an afternoon meeting. It will be held in the village hall at 2pm on Wednesday, November 13. This will be a craft afternoon and members will make Christmas angels in various ways.

Sawley - Chapel service: the service of the sacrament, with Rev Dr Pat Malham, begins at 2pm in Sawley Chapel.

Church service: there will be a celebration of the Eucharist (a said service) with Rev Caroline Falkingham at 9am on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.

Village hall events: table tennis begins at 7.30pm on Monday and dominoes is at 1pm on Tuesday.

WI meeting: Sawley WI members meet in the village hall at 7.30pm on Tuesday.

Coffee morning: Sawley Chapel’s coffee morning and gift day will be held from 10-11.30am on Saturday, November 9 in the chapel.

Who done it: the Ripon Rowel players will present Murder at the Pyramids in the village hall, Sawley on Saturday, November 16. The ticket price of £6 includes supper and the bar will be open.

North Country Theatre: tickets for North Country Theatre’s latest production, The Lost World, which will be staged at the village hall on Friday, December 13, are on sale from November 13. They are priced at £8.50 and are available by contacting Arlene on 01765 620250

Winksley - Church service: the service of communion by extension, with Adrian Roberts, will be held at 10.30am on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.

The first Seed and Cutting Swap Shop in Kirkby Malzeard: was held on Sunday, October 20 and despite the weather was well attended. It was an opportunity for villagers to bring along plants and swap them for others and also gain some advice from the Yorkshire in Bloom members who were out in force. It is hoped to organise a similar event next year in the new Jubilee Garden.
