Church services: Adrian Roberts will be the officiant at the service of Matins which begins at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. The midweek communion service starts at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Chapel service: Sunday worship will be led by Mr Kevin Charlesworth at 10.30am in the Ebenezer Chapel.

Coffee morning: the annual coffee morning in aid of Macmillan takes place from 10am to noon tomorrow. There will be a raffle, cake and bring and buy stalls and an opportunity to order Christmas cards. Please support it.

Quiz night: the mechanics’ institute winter quiz nights begin tomorrow. The bar will be open from 8pm and the quiz begins at 8.30pm prompt.

Balloon race: Kirkby Malzeard preschool is organising a balloon race and family BBQ and fun day from noon-2.30pm on Saturday. It all takes place on the school playing field with barbecue, soft play, bran tub and cake and toy stalls. Balloons can be bought at Highside butchers, from committee members or from preschool and are £1.50 each. The prizes include £50 for the furthest travelled balloon and the proceeds from the event are for the new building fund.

Mechanics institute events: the watercolour painting and the needlecraft classes start today. The painting class will be held from 9.45am-12.15pm and needlecraft is from 1.30- 3.30pm. The technical knock out class will be held from 9.15-10.15am and yoga from 1.45-3pm tomorrow. Badminton is from 7pm on Monday. On Tuesday the mixability exercise class will be held at 2pm and body blitz aerobics at 7pm.

Meeting: the members of Kirkby Malzeard, Laverton and Dallowgill parish council meet in the annex of the mechanics’ institute at 7.15pm on Monday.

WI: the AGM of the Kirkby Malzeard WI will be held at 7.15pm on Wednesday in the mechanics’ institute.

Open morning: Kirkby Malzeard preschool is holding an open morning for prospective parents and their children from 9.30-11.30am on Thursday, October 3. Harvest supper: this year’s Harvest supper will be held at the mechanics’ institute on Friday, October 4. The speaker will be the Rev Ruth Parry and tickets are available from Ruth Verity (01765 658401) and Pamela Corfield (01765 658987).

Disco: a disco, organised jointly by the mechanics’ institute and the Highside playing fields committees, will be held at the mechanics’ institute on Saturday, October 5.

Dominoes: the winter season of domino nights at the Highside playing field pavilion starts on Monday, October 7 at 7.30pm. The £2 charge includes tea and biscuits.

Coffee morning: the Methodist Chapel coffee morning will be held from 10am-noon on Tuesday, October 8. There will be cakes and cards to buy and a warm welcome to everyone.

Day therapy: Saint Michael’s Hospice is looking for volunteers for a pilot designed to improve access to its services by delivering day therapy care at the mechanics’ institute in Kirkby Malzeard. It will run for 20 weeks from the end of November. Volunteers are needed to assist both the nursing staff and patients and volunteer drivers to drive local patients to and from their day therapy sessions. Volunteers must be 18 or over. Aldfield - Church service: Rev Lesley Ashton will celebrate the Eucharist at 10.30am on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.

Azerley - Parish council: members of Azerley parish council meet at Galphay village institute at 7.30pm tonight.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel.

Galphay - Folk dance club: the next time the Highside folk dance club members meet in the village institute will be from 8-10pm on Friday, October 4 when Twiddling Thumbs will play and Angela Bodey will be the caller. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.

Grantley - Dominoes: the monthly dominoes night starts at 7.30pm on Friday, October 4 in the village hall.

Auction of promises: this event, in aid of Fountains Parish and Fountains School, will be held in the village hall on Saturday, October 5. The doors will be open at 7pm and the auction begins at 8pm. Admission is £5 and this includes the first drink and canapés.

Dance:the next dance at the village hall will be held from 8pm-midnight on Saturday, October 12. Lyne Valley will be the band and there will be a raffle and supper.

Meeting: Grantley and Winksley WI members meet for their AGM at 7.15pm on Wednesday, October 9. The business meeting will be followed by a pie and pea supper.

Sawley - United service: this will be held at 6.30pm on Sunday in the Church of St Michael and All Angels.

Flower arranging: an evening of flower arranging with Bob Forbes from Oasis of Ripon will be held in the village hall at 7pm tonight.

Afternoon tea: there will be afternoon tea available from 2pm tomorrow in the village hall. All are welcome.

Village hall events: there will be an opportunity to play table tennis at 7pm on Monday. On Tuesday Sawley WI members meet at 7.15pm.

Winksley - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald.
