Church services: Rev Martin Bull will celebrate the Eucharist at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s Church. The mid week communion service begins at 10.30am on Wednesday.

Chapel service: Sunday worship will be led by Rev Ruth Parry at 10.30am in the Ebenezer Chapel.

Members’ evening: the mechanics’ institute committee is organising a members’ event to be held at 7.30pm tomorrow. This is a cheese and wine evening to which all 2013 members are invited.

Cake stall: from 9am on Saturday there will be a cake stall at the Methodist Chapel for Helping Ellie. Ellis is a two-year old who has been diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy which presents problems with mobility. Any monies raised will go towards adaptations to her home to make life easier for Ellie and her family. Please leave cakes with Janet Jordan at Montreux, bring them to the stall or telephone 01765 658838 to arrange for them to be collected.

Coffee morning: the chapel coffee morning will be held from 10am-noon on Tuesday. Cakes, produce and cards will also be on sale.

Theatre in Kirkby: the Badapple theatre company will present Lights Out Land Girls in the mechanics’ institute on Thursday, May 23. The doors will be open at 7pm and the play begins at 7.30pm. Tickets are £9.50 for adults and £5 for the under 16s. They can be reserved by phoning 01765 658438.

Aldfield - Church service: there is no service on Sunday at St Lawrence’s Church.

Dallowgill - Chapel service: there will be a service of the Sacrament at 2pm on Sunday in Dallowgill Chapel with Rev David Richardson.

Spring walk: the weather was perfect for the 2013 Dallowgill spring walk. Thanks to the support of the group leaders, the walkers and everyone who provided refreshments en route the event raised £386. This will be divided between Dallowgill Chapel and the Chapel of the Resurrection.

Concert: Thornton Watlass choir will be presenting a musical evening at Dallowgill Chapel tomorrow evening. It starts at 7.30pm and will be followed by supper. It is a chapel fund-raising event.

Galphay - Folk dance club: the Highside Folk Dance club members meet in the village institute from 8-10pm on Friday, May 17 when the band will be Yorkshire Gold and Jan Porter will be the caller. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.

Grantley - Wine tasting: there will be a wine tasting evening in the village hall on Saturday.

Dance: Mark Kitto will provide the music for the next dance at the village hall. It will be held from 8pm to midnight on Saturday, May 25. There will be a raffle, and refreshments will be served.

Sawley - Church service: the family service to mark the beginning of Christian Aid week will be held at Fountains Primary school at 10.30am on Sunday, not in the Church of St Michael and All Angels. It will be led by Rev Caroline Falkingham and Liz Jarvis.

Chapel service: there is no service in Sawley Chapel on Sunday.

Sponsored walk: meet on The Green at 2pm on Sunday for a three to four mile walk. Please wear suitable footwear. Cake and refreshments will be available in the village hall at the end. Money from the sponsored walk will be for the sports day which will take place on The Green on Saturday, July 13. Village hall events: there will be table tennis from 7.30pm on Monday, a bowls match at 7pm on Tuesday, short mat bowls at 1pm on Wednesday and yoga at 10am on Thursday.

Meeting: members of Sawley Village Hall committee meet in the village hall at 7.45pm on Tuesday.

Sawley arts group: a visit to York by bus is planned for Wednesday. It is proposed to visit Fairfax House for the exhibition Crowning Glory featuring the splendour and historical significance of jewellery associated with York and Yorkshire’s great houses and families, and if time permits go on to the Museum Gardens. Whist and dominoes: Friday, May 17 is Sawley Village Hall’s whist and domino night. It starts at 7.30pm.

Winksley - Church service: the service in the Church of Ss Cuthbert and Oswald at 9am on Sunday is the Eucharist. It will be celebrated by Rev Caroline Falkingham.

Garden Fete: Fountains Parish Garden Fete will be held in the grounds of Winksley Church on bank holiday Saturday, May 25. There will be all the usual stalls and attractions and teas will be served.
