Church services: Rev Caroline Falkingham will celebrate the Eucharist at 10.30am on Sunday in St Andrew’s church. There will also be Spotlight, the children’s Sunday club. The mid week communion service will be held at 10.30am on Wednesday.
Chapel service: the chapel members will make their own arrangements for worship at 10.30am on Sunday in the Ebenezer chapel.
Film night: tomorrow will be the next film night at the mechanics’ institute starting at 7.30pm. All details are available on the notice boards. The film scheduled to be shown on Friday, January 18 was cancelled due to the severe weather conditions. It will now be screened on Friday, March1.
Workshop: Kate Crane is holding a workshop using alcohol inks on embossed metal from 9.30am-12.30pm on Saturday in the mechanics’ institute.
Dominoes: there will be a domino night organised by the Kirkby Malzeard bowls club members in the Highside playing field pavilion on Monday. It starts at 7.30pm, there will be a raffle and the £2 charge includes tea and biscuits. All are welcome to a friendly, sociable evening.
Quiz night: next Friday, February 22 is the date of the monthly quiz night at the mechanics’ institute. It starts at 7.30pm.
Meeting: members of Kirkby Malzeard, Laverton and Dallowgill parish council meet in the annex of the mechanics’ institute at 7.15pm on Monday, February 25. Agenda items must be with the chairman, Coun Gwynneth Jackson, or the vice chairman, Coun Mike Hurford, by 9am on Monday, February 18.
Women’s fellowship: the ladies meet in the Methodist Chapel schoolroom at 2.15pm on Wednesday, February 27 when the speaker will be Mr Barry Kay whose topic will be The other side of the world. Tea and biscuits will follow the talk.
Day of prayer: the women’s world day of prayer will be held at the Methodist Chapel at 2pm on Friday, March 1. The service this year has been written by the Christian women of France. The speaker will be Rev Susan Richardson. Refreshments will be served after the service.
Walks: calling all walkers. The 2013 crocus walk in aid of Breakthrough breast cancer will be held on Sunday, March 17 and the Dallowgill spring walk in support of Dallowgill Methodist Chapel and the Chapel of the Resurrection will be on Saturday, April 20. Further details of both events will be available nearer the dates.
Aldfield - Church service: there is no service on Sunday in St Lawrence’s Church.
Dallowgill - Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Dallowgill chapel.
Galphay - Folk dance club: the Village Hop Band will play for the Highside Folk Dance club when members meet in the village institute from 8-10pm tomorrow. Bob Carter will be the caller. The charge is £3 for adults and 50p for children.
Grantley - Dancing: this will be held in the village hall from 7.30pm to 10pm tonight.
Dance: the next dance at the village hall will be in aid of Dallowgill chapel. It will be held on Saturday, February 23 from 8pm to midnight. Alan’s band will play and there will be a raffle and supper.
Sawley - Church service: there is no service on Sunday at the Church of St Michael and All Angels.
Chapel service: there is no service on Sunday in Sawley Chapel.
Whist and dominoes: Friday night is whist and domino night in the village hall. It starts at 7.30pm.
Village hall events: there will be table tennis at 7.30pm on Monday, a bowls match at 7pm on Tuesday and short mat bowls at 1pm on Wednesday.
Tea.: afternoon tea will be served in the village hall from 2pm on Friday, February 22.
Sale: from 10am-1pm on Saturday, February 23 there will be a table top sale at the village hall. Please telephone 01765 620328 to book a table, price £7 a table, as soon as possible. Coffee and biscuits will be on sale (£1).
