In pictures: Thousands savour summer day out at Ripley Show 2016

Thousands of people from across Yorkshire and beyond flocked to Ripley Castle for the annual Ripley Agricultural Show on Sunday, writes Karen Ruiz.

With about 8,000 attendees, the family event that has made its way to the North Yorkshire village every summer for the last 170 years proved to be a major success once again.

Families were entertained by dozens of attractions such as terrier racing, sheep shows, and Stuart Barnes’s dog and duck show.

The agricultural show that is organised by the The Ripley and District Agricultural and Horticultural Society, began at 8.30am on Sunday morning with equitation and riding events and also provided musical performances from Summerbridge and Dacre 

Other attractions at this year’s show included carriage driving, vintage machinery, tractors and classic cars, as well as a sheep show, terrier racing, dog agility, as well as New Zealander Stuart Barnes with his dog and duck 

This year also received a larger number of entries than the previous year with 1,870 entries.

Honorary Secretary of the organising committee Marjorie Periam said: “ I think it was excellent, it was very good indeed.

“I don’t think it was a record number of people like last year, but it was very, very close.

“Usually we get between eight and nine thousand people.

“It was a lovely atmosphere and a very nice 

“Everyone enjoyed themselves and we got a lot of compliments saying how nice it was.”

“We had a better show of tractors and classic cars this year and very nice Grand Parade.

“We had a huge number of cattle and heavy horses this year as well.”

Although the popular agricultural show only comes around once a year, Mrs Periam said preparations for next year’s event are already underway.

“We’re thinking about next year already.

“We look at what everybody said and how we can improve for the following 

“I’m going on holiday now, but when I come back we’ll be starting straight 

“I just want to thank everyone for coming out, I think everybody enjoyed it and all together it was a lovely
