A Northallerton family are rallying to raise money for a breast care unit.

Sandra Bates from Sinderby near Thirsk is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer at York Hospital.

To raise funds for the unit she will be taking part in the Promenade Stages Rally at New Brighton, Merseyside along with husband Bill and daughters Kari and Katy.

The family who run Tanfield Engineering in Northallerton will join other rally drivers on September 9 -10, which also coincides with the date of Sandra and Bill’s 39th wedding anniversary.

Sandra’s eldest daughter, Kari, will accompany her as Co-Driver in her quest. Bill, will be driving a second car, accompanied their 17-year-old daughter, Katy.

Sandra was diagnosed with breast cancer after attending a routine breast screening at York Hospital where she is currently undertaking Radiotherapy.

She said, “I haven’t been in a rally car for 22 years when I was diagnosed with breast cancer I decided to renew my license so I could raise money for the Breast Care Unit in recognition of the fantastic care I have received.
