Harrogate Magistrates Court weekly round-up

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on March 10:

Carl Lewis McGoughlin, 31, of 29 Hough Lane, Bramley, Leeds, was given a 12-month community order for damaging the glass pane of a door in Valley Drive, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay compensation of £574.47, a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £250.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on March 9:

Kelly Harrison, 32, of 48 Heslington Road, York, was given a 12-week prison sentence for stealing a Braun face epilator and a Slendertone abs machine, worth a total of £219.98, from Boots at St James Retail Park, Knaresborough. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20.

Andrew John Ryan, 37, of 14b Canal Wharf, Ripon, was given a 12-month community order for stealing food worth £27.10 from Marks and Spencer in Harrogate. He was ordered to complete a six-month drug dependency treatment and to carry out 40 hours of unpaid work. The same sentence was imposed for stealing three DVDs worth £34.99 from Booths in Ripon, along with a victim surcharge of £60 and costs of £85.

The following were dealt with at Harrogate Magistrates Court on March 8:

Alan Ralph Franklin, 54, of Room 3, Royd House, 5 North Road, Ripon, was fined £20 for stealing a frozen ready meal from Valley Forecourts at the BP/Spar filling station in North Street, Ripon. He was ordered to pay compensation of £3.50. He was fined a further £20 for committing the offence while subject to a conditional discharge for stealing a bottle of whisky from Asda in Harrogate.

Carl Hullan, 30, of 1 Wood Hill Close, Marton cum Grafton, was fined £200 for possession of cocaine. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20 and costs of £85. Magistrates ordered that the drug be forfeited and destroyed.

Robert Phillip McAthey, 33, of 24 Winrose Grove, Belle Isle, Leeds, was given a 12-month conditional discharge for stealing numerous bottles of alcohol from Asda in Harrogate on February 15. He was ordered to pay compensation of £192. For stealing further bottles of alcohol worth £257 one week later, he was given a further 12-month conditional discharge, but no compensation was ordered because the goods had been recovered.

Darren Plant, 35, of 1 Chapel Mews, Skipton Road, Harrogate, was given a six-month conditional discharge for being drunk and disorderly in Crescent Gardens, Harrogate. He was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £15.

Eathen Joseph Andrews, 18, of 34d Stileman Road, Norwich, was given a 12-month community order for stealing tents and a gazebo from Nidderdale Scout Hut in The Sidings, Pateley Bridge. He was ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and pay compensation of £260.

Amanda Judith Blanckensee, 39, of 46 Bramham Drive, Harrogate, was fined £50 for stealing food worth £359.38 from Morrisons in Boroughbridge. She was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £20. Because the offence was committed while she was subject to a conditional discharge for stealing goods worth £421.25 from Morrisons in Plumpton Park, Harrogate, a further £20 fine was imposed.
