COMMUNITY groups across the Harrogate district are being offered funding to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Harrogate Borough Council will celebrate the landmark in the Queen’s reign with thousands of pounds being made available through a series of £1,000 grants under the Community Chest scheme. The cash will be spread over the district, but it is hoped grants will be made to groups in the Boroughbridge, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Nidderdale and Ripon areas. Council leader Don Mackenzie said: “The Queen’s Christmas message for 2011 focused on family, friends and community spirit.
“We are keen that projects seeking agrant from this Diamond Jubilee fund will be able to demonstrate community participation and be linked to volunteering in some way.”
Nominations can be made up until noon on February 24, and more information is available at www.harrogate.gov.uk/voluntary or by calling corporate improvement officer Anne Byrne on 01423 556067.
The council set up the Community Chest project in 2007 and since then more than £100,000 has been awarded to voluntary and community groups.
