Brunswick Drive, Harrogate
This beautifully-decorated apartment is in the sought-after Duchy area of Harrogate and reflects the owner’s globe-trotting past and her eye for design.
Susan Warren, who bought the property eight years ago, has filled it with furniture and treasures from all over the world.
She bought the apartment after deciding to relocate from Rye to be closer to family in Harrogate.
“I spotted it online and just knew immediately that was where I wanted to live. I was on the train at 5am the next morning to make sure I got to the estate agent’s first thing and I put in an offer on the spot,” says Susan, who adds that the Arts and Crafts architecture was a big selling point, along with the space and the abundance of natural light.
Since buying the property, she has added an extension to create a large bedroom suite with dressing room and bathroom. She has also redecorated every room.
An artist and former floral designer, she has lived in New York, Boston, Washington and the Far East. So, the sequinned wall panel is from Bangkok, while the beaded Thai mannequin in the sitting room was bought in Washington D.C. and the life-size swan is from Maryland. Much of the furniture is international and has been teamed with contemporary new additions, such as the Philippe Starck Ghost dining chairs.
The apartment is on the ground floor and comes with a private, south-facing sun terrace and patio garden.
The 2,200 sq ft flat is accessed via a private entrance with an internal porch opening on to a large reception hall with underfloor heating. This leads to an impressive, bay-cornered sitting room centred around an original fire place. There is also a dining kitchen with hand built cabinets and a corner bay window, a study/bedroom three and a cloakroom with door into a w/c. The bedroom space is separate from the living quarters and consists of a master bedroom suite, a second bedroom with separate dressing room and a shower room plus separate utility room.
The apartment has plentyb of storage inside and therev are are outhouses outside. The property comes with two off-road parking spaces. Susan is selling to relocate but says: “This is the longest I have ever lived anywhere, which really says a lot about much I love the apartment.”
*Brunswick Drive is within a short walk of countryside, the Valley Gardens and Harrogate town centre.
