Fortunately, votes are still pouring in worldwide in an incredible show of support for Pateley Bridges’ bid to win the Great British High Street competition. With the closing date for online just hours away, the bid’s champions Nidderdale Chamber of Trade say they’ve received votes from people in Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Switzerland, Spain, France, Germany, USA, Canada, the Philippines, Russia and China - as well as Britain. With local MP Julian Smith, who visited the town last week to meet the team, also backing Pateley, things are looking good. But Pateley’s two rival finalists are also doing well in the contest which its government backers say has really taken off this year.High Streets Minister Andrew Percy said: “The buzz generated by this year’s competition has seen a record breaking 350,000 votes cast already.“Pateley Bridge has worked hard but this is the last push and there’s still everything to play for, so get online and vote now for Pateley Bridge to be Britain’s Best High Street.”Pateley also received a shot in the arm from Julian Smith, MP for Skipton and Ripon, who visited the town’s high street last week to see the terrific shops and friendly Pateley atmosphere for himself where he was met by the bid’s leaders from Nidderdale Chamber of Trade. And he was certainly impressed. The MP, who has been tweeting his support for Pateley, said: “Keith Tordoff and his team at the chamber of trade have put forward a phenomenral bid in the final of this national contest. “I’m so excited about it. Pateley Bridge has stood out with its unique and individual shops and a whole gamut of great attributes.“The High Street just looks stunning. It’s fantastic. I’ve been lobbying on its behalf when I’ve been in London.”To vote for Pateley Bridge, To vote, visit www.thegreatbritishhighstreet.co.uk/finalist-village
