Audley Scarcroft Park as the development will be known, will be home to 172 high-quality retirement and nine residential properties.

Kevin Hudson, Construction Director, Audley Group said: “We’re really pleased to get work underway at Audley Scarcroft Park, our third village in Yorkshire.

“A lot of change will take place on site in the coming months, the village will start to take shape and I know the team are looking forward to the restoration of the beautiful Scarcroft Lodge.”

Preparatory groundwork has started on the site ahead of the demolition of a 70,000 square foot 1970s office block, which was the former home of Yorkshire Electricity, due to take place in May.

Audley, the UK’s leading provider of luxury retirement villages, will then start construction of 18 new buildings and start the sympathetic restoration of Grade II listed Scarcroft Lodge.

Scarcroft Lodge, built in 1830, will be converted by a specialist team into the home of the Audley Club which will provide owners and the local community with a restaurant, health spa with hydrotherapy pool, gym and wellness studio.

The village will also offer care to owners and the local community through Audley Care, Audley’s stand-alone Care Quality Commission-registered care provider.

Scarcroft Cricket Club currently rents a cricket pitch and pavilion on the site and the club will remain in the location as part of the development.

Mr Hudson added: “We’ll just have to keep an eye out for any stray cricket balls as the season gets underway.”
