Harrogate Borough Council’s award-winning parks team is setting up some new volunteering opportunities.
Volunteers will get the chance to work alongside some of the country’s most highly regarded professional council gardeners, whose work in the district’s parks has been highlighted by gardening celebrity Alan Titchmarsh.
Anyone who can give a hand to this highly qualified and dedicated team will take home handy tips to make the best out of their own garden.
They will also gain useful experience and meet the men and women who are responsible for the district’s beautiful parks and open spaces as well as getting to spend time in the open air doing something positive to support the local area.
A spokesman for the borough council said: “We know that the quality of parks and gardens attracts visitors and add to what makes it a great place to live and work.”
On Tuesday, October 8, volunteers are invited to help the team strip out the beds on West Park in Harrogate and on Wednesday, October 9, the council wants volunteers to work with the team at Ripon Spa Gardens.
Patrick Kilburn, the council’s head of parks and open spaces, says these are pilot volunteering sessions. “We rely heavily on all our volunteers, particularly through a number of very active friends’ groups.
“But many people are happy to give a helping hand on a more ad hoc basis and without necessarily wanting to be part of a bigger group. If these pilots work we plan to hold more volunteering opportunities throughout our parks and open spaces.”
Inductions will be at 12.30pm and volunteers will work from 1-3pm. If you can help, contact Kate Dawson, on 01423 500600.
