KEEN youngsters from RAF Leeming used their imagination and artistic skills to design a new front cover for the publication which keeps families on the station connected.
The Leeming Link is distributed to each family on the North Yorkshire Station every month, and is one of the best ways to find out what is happening within the community, featuring details on everything from bin collection days and Scout groups to bus timetables, coffee mornings and aerobics.
Until now the publication has been colourless, and it was decided to give The Link a real boost for 2012 with new front cover.
Children from RAF Leeming CP School were asked to put their thinking caps on, and the response was fantastic – with more than 200 youngsters submitting their draft front covers for consideration.
After much deliberation, the bright and informative entry from nine-year-old Kiah Baxter was chosen as overall winner.
Kiah’s winning entry will take pride of place on the front of The Leeming Link throughout 2012 – with breaks only being made for special Easter and Christmas editions. She has also won the chance to be Station Commander for the day. Wing Commander Fin Monahan is Officer Commanding Operations Wing at RAF Leeming, and was one of the judges for the new front cover.
He said: “The standard of entry was extremely high and making a decision was very difficult but Kiah made great use of colour – and the amount of information she included made her entry the winner.
“I would like to thank all the children for the effort they put into their entries.
“It shows the level of interest they have in their community and RAF Leeming as a whole.”
