Cyclist, 16, critical after Masham crash

A GIRL, aged 16, has been seriously injured in an crash near Masham, North Yorkshire Police said today.

Officers said the cyclist, a 16-year-old girl, who lives locally, had been taken to hospital by air ambulance following the collision and today her condition was described as “critical.”

The accident happened on the B6267 at its junction with Halfpenny House Lane close to Masham at 12.50pm on Saturday and involved a white mountain bike and a dark coloured Kia 4x4 vehicle.

North Yorkshire Police said the driver of the 4x4, a 35-year-old woman from the Leyburn area, suffered minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment. The road was closed for several hours to allow police to investigate the scene.

Police say the cyclist was wearing a distinctive pink top and a rucksack and was riding a white mountain-style bike.
