BURGLARS have stolen treasured heirlooms including war medals from a static caravan near Boroughbridge.
The theft happened at a holiday lodge park on Minskip Road between Wednesday, February 15, and Friday, February 17.
The burglars broke into the caravan before stealing a silver Malaya General Service medal with a purple and green ribbon attached (example pictured); two fleur-de-lys brass Army badges; two brass Army drum badges on red backgrounds; a brass West Yorkshire regiment white horse in gallop badge; and an Army crossed sword badge in brass on a red background.
They also took watches and various items of jewellery, and a variety of rare notes and coins, some of them commemorative.
DC Scott Nugent, of Harrogate CID, said: “Of particular personal value to the victim, a widowed ex-serviceman, is the Malaya General Service medal which, along with the other cherished possessions, he had wanted to hand down to his grandchildren.”
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, press option 2 and ask for Scott Nugent.
