VIDEO - plea to help find missing man

Fears are growing for the safety of missing man Graham Roskell, who hasn’t been seen since leaving Harrogate Hospital early on Saturday morning.

The 65-year-old retired police officer, who is ill and may be confused, is believed to be walking home towards the Kirk Hammerton area.

And as the search enters its fourth day, and temperatures plummet, officers have pledged to keep looking.

“We are concerned about his health,” said Supt Aubrey Smith, of Harrogate Police. “We are trying to get him back to his family.

“He is happy when outdoors. It may be that he has put a shelter together.

“We are asking for any witnesses who may have seen him to come forward.”

Volunteer search and rescue teams have been scouring woodland near Little Ribston, where Mr Roskell’s scent was picked up by sniffer dogs.

They were backed up by air support from across the county, with a helicopter searching between Tockwith, Ribston and Kirk Hammerton yesterday.

Residents are being urged to check their sheds and outbuildings for any sign of him.

“We are looking for any sense or indication that anyone fitting that description is in the area,” said Supt Smith.

“We have specially trained officers carrying out searches, and while we encourage people in the area to search their gardens and sheds, we ask that people put don’t themselves at risk.”

Insp Bruce Prendergast, of Harrogate police, said: “Mr Roskell has been missing overnight and we need to find him urgently.

“He may have taken shelter somewhere as the night drew in and I would urge everyone to take a few minutes to check their outbuildings and help us with our search.

“We don’t want Mr Roskell to spend another night out in the open, therefore it is vital that anyone with any information, no matter how small, contacts the police as soon as possible.”

Mr Roskell is described as white, with a stocky build and short grey hair.

When he was last seen he was wearing a green patterned jumper, grey trousers and black shoes. It is also believed that he has a blue dressing gown with him.

Anyone who can help locate Mr Roskell is urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101 - select option 2 - and ask for Harrogate police.
