Cyclists in the Tour de France peloton could have been seriously injured when a glass jug was thrown in their path in Ripon.

On Saturday July 5, as the peloton was approaching Palace Road, the jug was thrown into the road from one of the gardens in the vicinity of the clock tower.

Quick thinking from the crowd, however, meant the glass was cleared away before any of the cyclsts arrived on the spot.

North Yorkshire Police are now looking to identify and speak with the person who threw the jug.

The police also want to speak to any witnesses or anyone who has any footage of the incident, which could have had serious consequences for the cyclists, who where travelling at speed.

Anyone with information should call 101 and ask for PS1543 Sellers.
