A pay and display parking ticket machine worth thousands of pounds has been stolen from Ripon city centre.

The ticket machine was ripped from its concrete base from St Marygate car park overnight between Sunday, November 4, and Monday, November 5. The machine is valued at around £5,000.

Ripon police believe that a group of people would have used a vehicle to carry out the theft as the machine is extremely heavy. They are now appealing for information.

PC Leah Champion, of Ripon Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “If you were in the area of the St Marygate car park and witnessed any suspicious activity I urge you to come forward and contact the police or Crimestoppers straight away.

“I also need to speak to anyone who may have seen people paying unusual attention to pay and display machines in the days prior to the theft.”

PC Champion added: “I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who knows where the machine is now and ask them to get in touch.”

Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact Ripon police on 101, press option 2 and ask for Leah Champion. Alternatively information can be emailed to
