Residents at an accommodation for elderly people in Harrogate were left startled when intruders forced their way into the building on Sunday.
The group damaged the building as they forced their way into the Adelphi sheltered housing complex on Cold Bath Road at around 3am.
Nothing was taken during the break-in but police are continuing to search for the two to three men involved with the incident.
The men were also believed to have caused a disturbance on Cold Bath Road at the same time.
They are described as white, one was wearing a yellow high-visibility jacket and one wore a sleeveless top.
Officers are conducting enquiries and are requesting the public’s assistance to help determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed something, in particular any passing motorists.
