Boroughbridge man disqualified from driving after fatal Station Parade crash
A Boroughbridge man has been disqualified from driving after pleading guilty to causing a fatal crash on Station Parade last year.
Peter Stockell, 82, of Kennilworth Drive, Langthorpe, pleaded guilty to causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving at Harrogate Magistrates Court on Tuesday, December 6.
Stockell was driving his black VW Golf on Station Parade on Wednesday, October 21 last year as 83-year-old Brian Dell was crossing from Cheltenham Parade.
Mr Dell was making his way towards Harrogate Bus Station before he was struck by Stockell, leaving him with serious injuries.
Despite being immediately airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary, Mr Dell died in hospital on Friday, November 6 as a result of his injuries.
Stockell originally pleaded not guilty to the charge of dangerous driving when he first appeared at Harrgate Magistrates Court on Thursday, September 15.
However, he changed his plea to guilty and was given a community order as well as a 12-week curfew requirement.
Stockell must now remain indoors from December 7 to February 28, 2017 and was also disqualified from driving for 24 months.
