Balaclava-clad man armed with piece of wood raids Harrogate newsagents

A man dressed in a makeshift balaclava and armed with a piece of wood stole money from a Harrogate newsagents during a terrifying raid last week.

The man, also wearing a black hooded jacket, entered Cawthorn Newsagents on Cawthorn Avenue before threatening the shop worker with a piece of wood wrapped in a white plastic bag.

The shop worker handed over an amount of cash from the till over to the man. He then left the shop and continued in the direction of Cawthorn Avenue.

He then discarded the jacket and balaclava, crossed the road and continued onto Tyson Place.

The suspect is described as in his 20's, approximately 6ft and of a thin build, and is thought he may be from the local area as he spoke with a local accent.

The robbery took place at around 12.10pm on Thursday, June 30.
