Coun Peter Horton (Ind) will represent Ripon at the parish council workshop for the Harrogate District Local Plan on March 4.
Harrogate’s Planning Policy Team will stage the day’s workshop, with a specific aim at parish councils, to engage with them over plans for growth across the Harrogate district up to 2035. The workshop will provide an opportunity for parish councils to discuss the issues affecting their communities and for the borough council to explain how they can input into the Local Plan process.
At the city council meeting last week, Coun Andrew Williams (Ind) proposed that Coun Horton should represent Ripon as the chairman of planning for the city, with the proposition seconded by Coun Pauline McHardy (Ind). However, the Mayor of Ripon, Coun Mick Stanley (Con,) will have to wait and see if there is another place available for him to attend the workshop as he said he was planning on representing the parish.
Coun McHardy said: “There might not be but before you claim that place Mr Mayor there are other councillors on this council who want to go as well.”
Harrogate council has started working towards a new Local Plan for the district after the original plan was withdrawn in June.
