Club sails away with £7,738 grant

Members of Ripon Sailing Club are celebrating this week as the Club has been awarded a Sport England grant of £7,738.

The funding will be used by the Knaresborough-based club to buy training equipment including an additional safety boat, complete with high performance engine and trolley.

And it will be used to train an additional six Club Racing Coaches, a vital resource for the club and the RYA (Royal Yachting Association) North East Region.

Ripon Sailing Club has an enviable reputation throughout the UK for introducing novices to the sport of sailing and to then develop their skills, and is particularly keen to develop this reputation further.

As an RYA Champion Club there is a high focus on skill development for junior and youth sailors and this has resulted in a number of its members winning regional, national and international events.

The club also offers out its facilities for class coaching events run at Zone level by the RYA and this new boat will enable more people to get afloat more often.

The grant application, which was submitted by former Commodore Jennie Clark, will enable the club to continue to develop their programme of coaching and sailing skill development, next year.
