VOLUNTARY groups are being invited to apply for grants from the Community Chest.
Funded by Harrogate Borough Council, the chest has £30,000 to give out for community, environmental, sports and play projects and activities.
Coun Anthony Alton, cabinet member for resources, said: “Community groups play a huge role in providing many essential services and activities in our district and like the public sector they are facing difficult economic times.
“We know from previous years that there is a very positive impact on the community from these grants and this scheme delivers an excellent return on this investment from public funds.”
The Community Chest was set up in 2007 as part of the council’s plans to increase support for the voluntary and community sectors. Grants can be for any amount between £500 and £3,000 and will be awarded in October.
Application forms are available from www.harrogate.gov.uk/voluntary or by contacting Ann Byrne, corporate improvement officer (partnerships) at firstname.lastname@example.org or on 01423 556067. The closing date for applications is September 23, after which all application will be assessed together.
