Harrogate Restoration LLP paid £1.55 million for the landmark site in May last year after it failed reach it’s reserve of £1.9m at an auction in February 2013.

Along with, Gem Construction a firm which is well known for its historical restorations, the company set about making plans to convert the landmark building which were approved in September 2014.

Mike Green, of the Harrogate Restoration LLP, said: “It was the right time for us. We were looking for another project when this came up for auction. It is a beautiful building with high ceilings and big windows.

“I’ve timed the walking distances and it’s five minutes from The Stray and four-and-a-half minutes from the train station.”

The project includes the conversion of two former police cells, which are set to be contemporary apartments, complete with reminders of their past life.

Inside the show home light floods through the sash bay windows into a large kitchen complete with breakfast bar and lounge.

Stylishly decorated by interior designer Rachel McLane the home, priced at £875,000, the home boasts a master bedroom complete with dressing area and en suite, two other large bedrooms a snug and utility area.

Assistant site manager Liam Green said the builders are enjoying working on such a unique project.

He said: “It has been a push to get it finished, working on historical buildings is something we do quite a lot and we do it well.

“The homes look really good, it’s easy to see why anyone would want to live here, it’s a great location.”

Harrogate Police moved to a new £18million police station at Beckwith Knowle (below) in May 2012, leaving the town centre base which dates back to 1931.

The building stood empty for two years and showed signs of neglect and vandalism before it was bought.

Initially Harrogate Borough Council had planned to level the building and create a purpose built council headquarters on the site. However these hopes were dashed in September 2012 when English Heritage listed the building.

English Heritage described the Old Police Station as: “A good example of a style of architecture known as Queen Anne Revival, designed by the West Riding County Architect Percy Oats Platts.”

The conversion of the property in North Park Road will include 16 apartments. There will also be nine houses, four of which will be newly built.
