Masham’s new Co-op shop is to open in July this year.
The company is moving from its current home on Park Street to a bigger shop in the old W E Jameson & Sons premises on Leyburn Road.
The new shop will be 4000 sq ft, around a third bigger than the Park Street Shop, and all the current staff will transfer to the new site.
It will also be eco-friendly, a company spokesperson has said. Plans for the new store include refrigeration and lighting that work to reduce CO2 emissions, a leak detection system to limit water wastage and seven different recycling streams, and are set for a “Very Good” BREEAM assessment; a market recognition for a low environmental impact building. The store will also be fully built using responsibly sourced materials.
Tim Hanser, Regional Acquisitions Manager for The Co-operative Food said: “The Co-operative is proud of its record of operating at the heart of many communities. The investment will bring a larger, brighter, ‘greener’ store and improved range and service, ensuring a more pleasant shopping experience for people picking up their groceries locally. We look forward to continuing to meet the community’s daily food shopping needs and, in the best traditions of The Co-operative, make our contribution to local life.”
