Ripon’s Deli on Duck Hill impressed the judges so much at a national competition they created a special commendation for them.
The deli was showered with praise from satisfied customers which impressed the judges at The Guild of Fine Foods.
At the Guild’s Taste Awards Ceremony held in the Royal Garden Hotel, London, the results of a special competition to find the best Deli in Britain were announced.
Organised by Olives Et Al, The Guild of Fine Food and Delicious Magazine, Giles Henschell, organiser and head of the judging panel, specifically brought the audiences attention to support from customers at Deli on Duck Hill who said: “The service is outstanding and they have had to withstand competition from a new supermarket with a big deli section. ”
Another said: “The food is always fresh and well presented, and to see the owner help an elderly lady up the hill into town. That’s service.”
In recogntion of these glowing reports a new section was added to the awards – the commendation – and Deli on Duck Hill were the first to receive it.
Don Grundy, who owns the Deli on Duck Hill with wife Sadie, said: “To be so singled out by such a prestigious judging panel is truly heartwarming.
“Our philosophy has always been to create a warm atmosphere in our Deli, ‘shopping with friends’ is our motto.”
