A Harrogate hair salon has celebrated its 10th anniversary by becoming a certified dementia-friendly business – believed to be the first in the town to do so.
Dangerfield & Keane, on Cold Bath Road, welcomed Netty Newell and Fiona Andrews from Dementia Forward, who provided the 15-strong team with training to help them to sympathetically handle everyday situations with clients living with dementia and their carers.
The team then attended Dementia Forward’s ‘Singing for the Brain’ session at Christ Church, Harrogate, and founding director Gerri Keane presented the charity with a cheque for £1,000 as part of the salon’s sponsorship, which will see it provide funding of over £4,000 in the coming year.
“Having been in hairdressing for 44 years, I understand how important it is that clients feel pampered and really enjoy their time with us, and this is central to our success,” said Mr Keane.
“To mark our tenth anniversary year, we’re also making a significant donation to Dementia Forward and doing whatever way we can to help.
“It’s great to be able to give something back to the community by supporting a charity close to our hearts.”
