A Harrogate building company has been highly commended by its trade body for its green credentials.
Derry Construction, which is based at Starbeck, won the accolade for Commitment to the Environment and Sustainability at the National Federation of Builders Awards held at Westminster.
The award recognised the progress the firm has made in recycling and re-using waste, as well as its plans to use waste produce to provide power to its workshop.
The judges said: “The future plans that Derry has for continued improvement, in addition to the actions that have already been taken, demonstrate an ongoing commitment which is commendable.”
Director Shane Derry said: “I was surprised and pleased that we won this award. We won four awards in the building disciplines last year, so this environmental award was something we hadn’t got.
“It’s also very current, as people are increasingly thinking in those terms.”
Mr Derry has also been announced as President of the Harrogate and York Association of the NFB and sits on the national steering committee for the re-design and re-specification of all the UK’s construction apprenticeship schemes.
