A high-profile group of North Yorkshire entrepreneurs have joined voluntary mentoring organisation the Skipton and Ripon Enterprise Group (SREG) to support business growth in the Ripon area.
SREG, founded in 2010, provides free mentoring services that are designed to assess, motivate, and strengthen the development of SMEs based in the Skipton and Ripon area.
More than 20 businesspeople have pledged to support the development of a Ripon area mentoring hub.
Business leaders who have pledged their support include:
l Keith Anderson of K A Anderson Ltd
l Rick Compton and Stuart Gill of Newby Hall, Ripon
l Mark Cunliffe-Lister of Swinton Park, near Masham
l Piers England, director, at Commence Grp, Boro’bridge
l Nigel Farrar, MD, Angram Ltd, Thirsk
l Graham Jameson, MD, WE Jameson & Son, Masham
l Andrew Johnson, MD, Hemingways, Ripon
l Andrew Lupton, MD, Econ Engineering, Ripon
l Martin Sterne of Sterne Properties, Ripon
l Tim Wray chairman, Turner & Townsend.
SREG chief executive Andy Barton said: “A recent report suggested two-thirds of North Yorkshire’s new businesses are run by first-time entrepreneurs.
“However, we also have a high attrition rate of businesses and one of the reasons reported for failure is that business-owners don’t know where to go for advice that’s impartial and non-service-specific.”
SREG has recruited more than 40 mentors, who have wide expertise from varied backgrounds and provide free, confidential support and guidance.
It has also supported over 130 local companies of all sizes and in every sector.
Mr Barton added: “Many of these businesses come from the Skipton area and we now want to encourage more involvement from businesses in the Ripon area.”
