Aldi will make their long-awaited opening in Harrogate tomorrow (Thursday, July 21) with a special golden ticket event.

The budget supermarket first received planning permission to open in the former Dreams bed store on Harrogate Retail Park, off Skipton Road, in June 2014.

However, after pushing the store's opening date back on numerous occasions, Aldi announced it will open its doors on Thursday, July 21 at 8am.

To celebrate the opening, Aldi will be handing out golden envelopes to the first 100 people in the queue, each containing a special prize.

Customers will be in with a chance of winning a variety of prizes including a 40" HD Smart TV, a Tablet, a Sat Nav and a Portable DVD Player.

The store will be officially opened by a Team GB athlete, alongside store manager Matthew Washbrook who said he was looking forward to the day.

He said: "We’ve got some great opening week deals in store, so we’re hoping for a good turnout.

"We’re pleased that a Team GB athlete is able to help us celebrate the opening of our store in Harrogate, and we’re looking forward to greeting new customers when the store opens."

Aldi will become the first budget supermarket to open in Harrogate with the store creating nearly 30 jobs in the process.

The store has already got a 'luxury cheese and wine tasting event' lined up on Friday, August 26 and the store will also be sponsoring the Great Yorkshire Show Programme.
