The new Aldi store for Ripon is set to go ahead after borough council planners unanimously passed the plans on Tuesday.

The store, which will be based at the former gasworks site on Stonebridgegate, will create up to 30 new jobs.

A spokesman for the company said: “Aldi worked closely with Harrogate Borough Council and the local community to ensure the best development option was achieved for this disused site.

“We are delighted that members of Harrogate’s planning committee resolved to approve our plans for a new Aldi food store in Ripon, which will significantly improve local shopping choice . The next stage in the process is for construction timescales to be planned. New employment opportunities will be advertised closer to the time of completion, both locally and also via our recruitment website.”

Among those backing the plans was Ripon Coun Bernard Bateman, who said: “I feel the company has been absolutely phenomenal in the way it has consulted with people.”

Anyone who has questions about the development can telephone the project’s freephone information line on 0800 298 7040.
