Military Wives Choir: the Dishforth Military Wives Choir is giving a performance this evening at 6pm in St James Church, Boroughbridge. The performance will be Christmas themed, come along and hear the choir perform and there will be the chance to join in with some of your favourite carols. Admission to the concert is free. Mulled wine will be served and proceeds from the sale of refreshments will be divided between the charities Shelter, the Children’s Society and the choir’s choice of charity.

Christmas Quiz: Marton-le-Moor meeting room has a quiz tomorrow evening at 7.30pm, set and presented by quiz master Andrew Wilkinson. The cost is £4 per person which includes the quiz and supper. There will also be a raffle and prizes for this are welcome. You can book as a team of four, on your own or as a couple and make up a team with others on the night. All ages are welcome. Christmas Tree Festival: Boroughbridge and District Community Care invites you to its Christmas tree festival this weekend in St James Church. The festival is open on Saturday from 10am-4pm and on Sunday from 10am-3.30pm. Admission is £1, free for under 12s accompanied by an adult. In addition to the Christmas trees there will be refreshments and a prize tombola. Following on from the festival on the Sunday there are Carols on the Square, Hall Square, at 4pm. There will be a torch lit procession with Father Christmas from the church at 3.30pm.

Minskip Christmas Sparkle : the Minskip Mulled Wine and Mince Pie event and Sparkle for St Michael’s takes place on Sunday from 6.30pm onwards. Come and enjoy a festive tipple with your family, friends and neighbours in the fantastic new look village hall. There is complimentary mulled wine and mince pies for all but please bring a bottle to keep the party going. Also, please get your sparkles, bling or tinsel on to sparkle for St Michael’s and enjoy the raffle to raise money for this special charity. Donations of raffle prizes are very welcome, please drop in to Pauline at Minskip Market Garden by tomorrow.

Amblers: have a five mile Boroughbridge and Roecliffe ramble on Tuesday, led by Margaret and Terry. Please meet in the car park on Back Lane for a 10am start. Antiques Society: the Boroughbridge and District Antiques Society holds its Christmas lunch at the Crown Inn in Roecliffe on Tuesday. This welcoming and friendly society meets on the third Tuesday of each month at 7.45pm at the Coronation Hall. Historical Society: the Boroughbridge and District Historical Society’s December meeting is on Tuesday at 7.30pm in the Boroughbridge Library meeting room. Yore Film Society: has a screening of Saving Grace, a British comedy crime film, certificate 15, on Tuesday at the Coronation Hall at 8pm, starring Brenda Blethyn, Craig Ferguson, Martin Clunes, Tcheky Karyo and Jamie Forman. WI: the Aldborough, Boroughbridge and Dunsforth WI holds its Christmas celebration on Wednesday. The WI meets at Aldborough Village Hall on the second Wednesday of each month and has a full programme planned for 2013.

Sequence Dance: there is a sequence dance in the Coronation Hall next Saturday, December 15 from 7.30-10.30pm. The admission charge of £3 includes tea and biscuits with profits going to charity.

Community Carols: there are favourite carols followed by mulled wine and mince pies at the Coronation Hall next Sunday, December 16 at 6.30pm. There is no charge and all are welcome.

Church Services: this Sunday there is Holy Communion at Aldborough at 8.30am and Carols on the Square at 4pm. On Wednesday there are services of Holy Communion at Aldborough at 8.30am and at St James Church, Boroughbridge at 10.45am. There are services of Holy Communion at Kirby Hill at 9.30am and at Cundall at 11am with the Activ8 club meeting at Kirby Hill at 11am. On Monday there is the Christingle at Skelton Church followed by carols in the pub.
