Beer festival to aid ambulance

Wetherby Lions Club is holding their sixth Beer Festival to help Yorkshire Air Ambulance provide life-saving services across the county.

The fun starts at 12.30pm on Saturday May 28, at St James Church Centre Rooms, Church Street, in the market town.

“This year, we have benefited from the advice and expertise of consultant Irene Stephenson from her company, Wise Owl Consultancy, in supplying a range of local beers and ciders, which will be supplemented by some old favourites and we thank her for her assistance,” said Lions President Robert Rolfe.

Beers include 20 local ones carefully chosen to appeal to serious beer drinkers and occasional tipplers alike.

Robert added: “We are again putting on the popular Prosecco Bar, which seemed to go down well last year.

“There will also be a range of soft drinks for non-drinkers and children. Our Lions Ladies will be providing traditional pies and mushy peas and there will also be a BBQ in the courtyard.”

Live music will be provided by the Suit Case Dwellers and there will also be fun and games for the children.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, which relies on donations, provides emergency medical cover to hard to reach places and responds to life-threatening injuries. “The Yorkshire Air Ambulance carries out such a fantastic job for the people of Yorkshire in providing emergency medical cover,” added Robert.

“All that we can hope for is some fine weather and we look forward to seeing old friends and new comers alike to help the Air Ambulance funds.

“All can be assured of a great time and in the knowledge that they are supporting a very worthwhile cause.”

The entry fee of £5 (non drinkers £3) includes a free half pint of beer, programme and beer glass.

The Wetherby Lions President thanked the event’s sponsors.

“We could not run this event without the help of our many sponsors. We welcome the generous support from Mark Gregory of the The Swan and Talbot Public House and Anthony Pratt, MD of Ainsty Inns and also the continued much valued support from Stewart Hartley of G E Hartley & Son Ltd. who has been with us from our very first Beer Festival.

“A full list of our valued sponsors is published in our Beer Festival Programme.”
