Volunteer stewards are needed around the Harrogate district to cover the route of the Olympic Torch relay and act as ambassadors for the area.
Plans are well under way for the visit of the Olympic Torch to the district on the afternoon of June 19. The torch passes through Knaresborough, Starbeck, Harrogate and Ripon and major events are planned for around the route.
Harrogate Borough Council is looking for people over the age of 18, who are confident and have good interpersonal skills who will be required to do some lifting of crowd barriers and cones when necessary. Volunteers are vital to ensure the safety and enjoyment of the general public, the security of the Olympic Flame and the smooth management of the Torch Relay as it passes through the district.
