£20k bid to repair scout base

A Scout group has launched a £20,000 appeal to repair their decaying old headquarters.

The 1st Bardsey group needs to urgently renovate its 62-year-old base on the Bardsey and East Rigton border.

“Over the years, Scouting has changed, as has the state of repair of the building,” said a spokesman for the group.

“It is vital for the survival of the group that extensive renovations are carried out within the next few years.

“Currently there are about 70 children between the ages of 6 to 18 who have come to think of the group as their second home, and extended family.

“We aim to give these young Scouts a solid foundation in life, and the skills they will need to become valuable and productive members of society.

“Without a base, there can be no group, and that is why 1st Bardsey are working tirelessly to raise £20,000.

“Once the target has been achieved, the Executive Committee can begin to apply for essential grants that will allow building work to be carried out.”

The group has launched its Buy a Brick scheme where, for £25 people can have their name placed on a brick or for £100 company logos can be imprinted on a wall of fame.

“It is a fantastic long term advertising opportunity and a perfect opportunity to display the philanthropic work your company engages in,” added the spokesman.

The Scouts will also hold a fundraising summer fair and family fun afternoon, with various activities, at Bardsey Cricket Club on Sunday August 28, at noon.
