Once again Ripon in Bloom is running its annual garden competition for green-fingered Ripon residents.

The judges will be assessing your entries for: making the most of the garden regardless of size, location or age; originality; and neatness and tidiness.

A maximum of 20 points will be awarded in each of the following categories: first impression – does the garden inspire judges to take a closer look; layout and design – is the layout in keeping with the surroundings, and is this the best use of space available; planting – including shape, colour, texture, variety of plants for different seasons, and use of flowers, vegetables and herbs; colour – including plants, containers and fences, do the plants enhance each other, and is there a theme in planting; features and tidiness – features, neat edges, weed free, rubbish free, flowers dead headed.

Gardens amassing 85-100 points will win a gold award, 75-84 silver gilt, 60-74 silver, and 50-59 bronze.

Entry forms are available from the Ripon Gazette office on Kirkgate and the deadline for entries is Friday, July 6.

Judging will take place in the second half of July. Winners and runners-up will be notified as soon as possible, and the awards will be presented at the town hall in September.
