Independent Harrogate bar staff wish team member well for his epic bike challenge

Harrogate MP says 'I share your disappointment' on Boris's roadmap delay over Covid restrictions

The team at Starling Independent Bar Café Kitchen have already raised over £580 for their colleague Simon Gregory who is taking on an epic bike challenge which involves riding 288 miles in 24 hours from Harrogate to Southampton to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The intrepid Simon said “We all know someone affected by cancer. In our family, sadly one of those people was my Aunty, the Reverend Ruth Scott. Through her work, Ruth was an inspirational figure. In particular her Pause for Thought reflections on the BBC Radio 2 breakfast show resonated with millions of listeners around the world. Ruth battled lymphoma for 2 years and her warmth and compassion are missed by us all”

Luke Clarke, manager at Starling which is located at 47 Oxford Street, said “Whilst we wanted to support Simon with the challenge he has taken on, ultimately this ride is all about raising as much as possible for Macmillan. We have held a Macmillan coffee morning in the past at Starling and several of us on the team have been touched in some way by their amazing work.”

The donation from the team tipped Simon over the line of his £10k fundraising target.

Starling, which in the past has hosted live music and comedy nights, is now set to welcome Manchester wine and cheese company Decent Drop which is bringing its infamous wine and cheese party ‘Chat Cheese, Get Wined’ to the bar on Sunday, June 27.

Customers can expect flowing wine, mountains of cheese and loads of fun and games.

These wine and cheese parties involve you trying six spectacular wines paired with six unique cheeses, plus crackers, chutneys and a lot of nonsense from Carl and Ian who run the events.
