A CHURCH group bidding to take over the running of Hugh Ripley Hall in Ripon has revealed some of its plans for the venue.
Ripon Community Church – which has met at the Ripon YMCA building on Water Skellgate since 1993 – submitted a business plan to the hall’s owners, Harrogate Borough Council, for consideration in January.
Pastor Ted Bell said: “Under our proposals, it will be used for our church meetings but it will continue in the vein it is used now – we want to develop the hall so it gets used more by the community.
“We are more concerned with developing community ideas for it rather than having it as a building for worship.”
As reported last week, Ripon City Council has also submitted a business plan to Harrogate Borough Council to take over the running of the venue and is holding further discussions with the local authority about its proposals.
The church and city council’s bids were made after Harrogate Borough Council said it was considering selling the building or transferring responsibility to an outside organisation as part of a cost-cutting exercise
l Based on inaccurate information presented at a city council meeting, last week’s article and an article in the December 23 edition incorrectly stated the Ripon Alive churches together group had been one of the organisations making a bid to run Hugh Ripley Hall.
