Twenty different charities in the Harrogate district have been awarded a share of more than £400,000 from the Government to support their work during Covid year.

Public surge of money to support Harrogate's Long Lands Common woodland campaign

Bids for the Government's Coronavirus Community Support Fund had to be submitted by July and the Government has just announced that 20 charities serving the Harrogate, Knaresborough and Boroughbridge area have shared £414,608.

Harrogate and Knaresborough's MP welcomed the news.

Andrew Jones MP said: “There have been many funds available for charities and the Community Support Fund was specifically set up to help social enterprises and other bodies giving essential support to vulnerable people.

"Over the last decade since I became the MP for our area I have seen first-hand the valuable work many of the organisations do.

"I am delighted that they are benefiting from the Support Fund and continuing the fantastic work they do.”

The Coronavirus Community Support Fund

In May the government set up the Coronavirus Community Support Fund – a £200m cashpot with two aims:

1. To increase community support to vulnerable people affected by the COVID-19 crisis, through the work of civil society organisations.

2. To reduce temporary closures of essential charities and social enterprises, ensuring services for vulnerable people impacted by COVID-19 have the financial resources to operate, and so reduce the burden on public services.
