Pateley Bridge Vaccination Centre administers 900 jabs as programme moves on to people in their 30s
The centre, at Pateley Bridge Memorial Hall, opened in April after the facility’s trustees, local pharmacist Samina Khan and Dr Lewis Caplin applied for NHS approval to dispense the Oxford AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccination.
Since then, more than 900 people have been vaccinated. Prior to the centre opening, Nidderdale residents had to go to Harrogate, Ripon or York for their injections.

Under 40s are being offered alternative vaccinations, such as Pfizer and Moderna, due to the possible risk of rare blood clots which is slightly higher in younger age groups. This has led to Samina applying for approval to administer the Pfizer vaccine so that she can provide the service for younger people in the Dale.
The next session at the Park Road centre will be held on Saturday, May 29, as the hall is being used for the sale of parking permits this weekend. Other opening days depend on supplies available.
Chris Henderson, trustee of the Pateley Bridge and Bewerley Memorial Hall CIO, said: “It is an ideal centre and we suggested it quite early on. It is great that is has been put to good use. It is mainly local people but we have had some ringing up from the north east and Lancashire to be vaccinated. Everyone around here has been quite keen to get vaccinated. We have a large retired population, a higher than average age. It has also been good in that elderly and disabled people can’t often get all the way to Harrogate.”
